    Hi,
    I am planning to start cow farming could you please tell me which breed would be best as I am starting it now. Also would be great if you can list out prerequisites.

    Hi Arun Kumar..
    Selecting breed depends on lot of factors;

    Firstly, if you are going for milk from indigenous(desi) cows, then red sindhi, sahiwal. Exotic breeds: Jersey cross, HF cross should be fine

    Secondly, maintaining animals sustainable to the situation is the best policy. Bringing animals from different agro-climatic conditions causes problems due to non-adjustment in many cases. So buy breeds which can adjust to your climatic regions

      Yeah I agree.. Sahiwal and Sindhi are good to start with.

    Dairy farming with indigenous milch breeds like Gir, Sahiwal, Red Sindhi & Rathi is commercially viable. One can avail subsidy under DEDS for dairy farming with indigenous milch breed cows. These cows are well adapted to our agro-climatic condition & are more disease resistant in comparison to CB cows.
